Artist Statement

I create mixed-media sculptures using a technique I developed I call Güp.  My process begins with soaking materials such as fabric, thread, mulch or newspaper in a Güp bath, then either shaping and manipulating the mixture within molds to obtain the desired texture or applying the mixtures to boards to create lively images.  The Güp bath consists of ingredients sourced from my local hardware store.  Each Güp sculpture carries its own organic energy and sense of movement, subtly echoing the contours and vitality of the human form while celebrating the imagination and playfulness of the human spirit.
